Talk to Our CEO

Talk to Our CEO - Intech Credit Union

Welcome to our new web site, as part of the revamp I’d like to invite you, our members, to communicate with me on topics that you feel are important to you.

Over the past 12 months, particularly since the Global Financial Crisis, I have been fortunate enough to speak to many members and the feedback that I have received is that you are pleasantly surprised that you can contact the CEO in person. It is doubtful that you could do that at any of the big banks. That is one of the benefits of being a member of a member owned financial institution and I’d like to expand on that.

OK so you can talk to the CEO but what else is different between credit unions and banks? Both credit unions and banks are regulated financial institutions; both provide a range of savings and loans products. From that point on the differences emerge, particularly in regard to purpose, ownership and governance.

Credit Unions are member–owned mutual financial co-operatives. Banks, as we all know are profit driven, shareholder owned and controlled entities. Unlike banks credit unions exist solely to serve our members, not to pay high dividends to a group of shareholders, some of whom may have undue influence on profit decisions. We are different to them and proud to be so.

I will be happy to communicate with as many of you who would like to take the time to tell me what you think. If you have suggestions for improvement I’m happy to hear it. Some suggestions will not be able to be implemented for a variety of reasons, but some just might. If you don’t tell me I may never know. I hope to hear from you soon.

Leigh Glaser.
