Smart ways to avoid paying Excess Transaction Fees

Smart ways to avoid paying Excess Transaction Fees - Intech Credit Union

By making some simple changes to the way you manage your accounts, you can minimise and even avoid paying transaction fees.

1. Use your VISA Card

Tip: Press "CR" when paying for purchases or bills with your VISA card.
Whenever you make a purchase at a supermarket or shop or when you pay your bills, use your
Titanium VISA card by pressing "CR" and signing for the transaction. This type of transaction is termed a VISA retail/merchant transaction and is always a FREE transaction.
Visa card transactions made over the Internet or telephone are also FREE transactions.

2. Paying Bills

Tip: use BPay via Internet Banking or Telephone Teller.
To pay bills without incurring additional fees use BPay via Internet Banking or Telephone
Teller or your VISA card over the phone. You can even future-date payments so your bills are paid on time, every time. These are all FREE transactions.

3. QuickDebit

Tip: Use QuickDebit to transfer funds into your accounts with us.
Use our FREE QuickDebit service anytime you need to transfer funds from other financial institutions to your account. QuickDebit is ideal for regular loan repayments, setting up a term deposit or simply to transfer funds.

4. EFTPOS

Tip: Take out extra cash when using EFTPOS, instead of at an ATM.
When you pay for a purchase using EFTPOS and you know you will require additional cash for later, request additional cash as part of your EFTPOS transaction. This way you only make one EFTPOS transaction for many purchases.

5. ATM Withdrawals

Tip: Make larger planned withdrawals rather than many small withdrawals.
All ATM fees are charged on a per transaction basis and not on the value of the transaction.
Therefore, by simply budgeting, you can minimise the number of ATM withdrawals and minimise excess transaction fees.
Also when using an ATM, look for a rediATM, NAB or a Cashcard ATM. These charges can be off-set against your Member Bonus Allowance.

6. Avoid Payment Default Fees

Tip: Use Telephone Teller, Internet Banking or SMS options to check your balances day or night.
With Telephone Teller & Internet Banking it is easy to check your balances day or night. To register for Telephone Teller, Internet Banking or SMS Alerts, click here.
