EMV Card Information

EMV Card Information - Intech Credit Union

We have now advanced into the ‘smart card’ era with the introduction of EMV Visa chips in all debit and credit cards issued by the Credit Union.

EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) chip technology is provided in the form of a microchip and is designed to increase card security by adding a second level of authentication when performing Visa transactions.

You will notice your new Visa debit and credit card is embedded with a microchip. Unlike the magnetic stripe on the back of the cards used until now, the micro chip is virtually impossible to copy providing an unrivalled level of protection against counterfeiting, card skimming and other fraudulent use.

The new chip technology means your confidential information is now encrypted on the chip offering significantly more security than cards with only a magnetic stripe.

We highly recommend that members contact the credit union and request to be issued an EMV chipped card before travelling overseas, in order to minimise the risk of fraud occurring on your account.

Existing cardholders will receive this new technology only once their current card is due for renewal or a new card has been requested.
