About Us

About Us - Intech Credit Union

The origins of Intech Credit Union go back more than 50 years when employees of what is now Telstra and later employees of IBM set up credit unions to provide better banking to their fellow employees. Today, we still provide better banking to people who work in the ICT sector in Australia, including employees of Telstra and IBM.

  Benefit from Customer Owned Banking
Being a customer owned credit union rather than a profit maximising bank means that when you become a customer; you become both a member and an owner. And we are run solely for the benefit of members as we don’t have shareholders to pay. We will get to know you and treat you as an individual and with respect. It’s in our DNA to always treat you honestly & fairly. Click here if you want to find out what makes credit unions better.

Just like the major banks, we are an Authorised Deposit Taking Institution regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian government also guarantees your retail deposits with us up to $250,000.

Take care when dealing with the major banks. They are great businesses but they are run solely to benefit shareholders, not customers. Occasionally they get caught out by the regulators, hence the continuing ‘bank scandals’. Think about checking out the website
Unhappy Banking if you’re concerned.

Supporting the ICT Sector
We come from the ICT sector so we support the ICT sector. Here are some of the ways we support your sector:

  • We also established the Intech Scholarship in Information Technology for students at the University of Technology in Sydney who can demonstrate financial disadvantage.
  • We are Gold Sponsors of the prestigious iAwards in NSW and Victoria.
  • We are members of the Australian Information Industry Association and many of our staff are members of the Australian Computer Society.
  • We are supporters and sponsors of the IT Contract & Recruitment Association.
  • Our Directors have a strong connection with the ICT sector with many either currently or formerly employed at Telstra, IBM and other ICT companies.
  • We understand the technology sector in Australia which means, for example, that our lending policies regarding contractors are much more flexible than the major banks.
